How to Apply Epoxy Floor Coating to Your Garage Floor
Applying epoxy floor coating on your garage floor is probably one of the most important steps you can take in order to ensure that your concrete garage floor lasts for many years to come. The advantages of applying epoxy coating are many and varied. It will resist oil, chemicals, grease, etc.
Installing epoxy floor coating in your garage is not very difficult, and you can do the task yourself, provided that you have all the needed materials and tools. Besides the epoxy coating itself, you will need tools like a concrete compound, a bleach cleaner, a garden hose, and a few more.
By far the most important step of applying an epoxy coating on your garage floor is the preparation process. The most important thing you must do in order to ensure the durability of the coating is to properly clean the garage floor prior to its application. Else, the coating might not stick properly, in which case you would have to do the job once more, starting from scratch.
First of all, in order to remove the dirt, you must clean the floor with a broom. Then, using the bleach cleaner, you must soak all the existing stains from the floor. After this, you must scrub them, until they are removed. Repeat this process in order to make sure that all the stains are removed.
Then, using a hose, you must rinse the floor. After that, you must let it dry. It is preferable that you leave the garage door opened for a night in order for the floor to dry completely. When the floor is dry, using a concrete compound, you must fill in all the cracks or holes. It’s only when the concrete dries that you can start applying the epoxy floor coating. Make sure that you follow the directions as they are specified on the container, if you want to make the best out of your epoxy coating installation.
